Tool Maker/Machinist

POSITION SUMMARY

The position is responsible for organizing activities for the development, implementation, and maintenance of tooling and processes improving quality and productivity. Troubleshoot problems with production tooling, takes corrective action and evaluates operational feasibility requirements of new tooling equipment or upgrades to existing equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Manufactures tooling and fixtures needed per customer design requirements.
• Develop, evaluate and improve tooling and manufacturing methods increasing production efficiency, quality, capacity, and utilization by reviewing current processes and suggesting improved methods for process optimization.
• Estimate mold and fixture lead times and costs to provide information for quoting.
• Work with maintenance personnel to prevent problems with tooling/machinery and related equipment
• Determine and eliminate root causes and reduce tooling issues in the manufacturing process.
• Ensure new tooling and fixtures have asset number tags attached before release to production.
• Provides technical training, guidance, and resource support through participation of process improvement initiatives.
• Organize uses for obsolete items where economical and practical. Maintain obsolete inventory.
• Work with other tool shops and key vendors to establish partnerships for tool and die build and repair
• Responsible for PM's of tooling used in production molding.
• Assist with training Set-Up Associates on new product launches to meet target date.

MARGINAL/LESS ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Must be a team member and effectively communicate with others.
• Support all current and new manufacturing tooling and machinery introductions.
• Work with Set-Up and Production Associates to best utilize tooling and to minimize down time.
• Aids in specifying and the requisition for machinery needed for production.
• Evaluate and maintain equipment, test equipment, tooling and supplies
• Flexible and continually maintain attention to detail.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

• 3-5 years tooling/manufacturing experience
• Experience in manufacturing processes for insert molding.
• Good verbal and written communication skills required.
• Computer literacy: Basic skills with Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to program in MasterCam.
• Knowledge of machine tool design, software application, mold design and ability to read blue prints and import solid models.
• Mastery of Micrometer, precision scale, caliper, and other test/inspection equipment required.
